And I can still see your smile when we had lunch that day and we got talking about Gettysburg and the causes, and how these myths persist. I will also say that I admire how you have grown up! Congrats my dear young friend!
I do envy you in one respect. And if you have a chance, I would love to know what Scott Hartwig thinks about how Buford and even Reynolds knew Heth from West Point. And used that to their advantage.
JIMJim Lamasonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16916527391589398774noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3187345560479137231.post-65768031587023137082009-01-31T16:26:00.000-05:002009-01-31T16:26:00.000-05:00No worries Kel! It was not until I became an AVID reader of the battle that I discovered it's all a myth.

Glad you make history fun for your kids!
JaredJared Frederickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16338961190412502120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3187345560479137231.post-65027557525136452392009-01-31T13:57:00.000-05:002009-01-31T13:57:00.000-05:00I homeschool my kids, and we recently studied the ...I homeschool my kids, and we recently studied the battle of Gettysburg. I'm ashamed to admit that I taught them (as I'd been told) about the shoe thing. I guess I know what we'll be covering on Monday.

Thanks J!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3187345560479137231.post-75816574422917566892009-01-31T13:49:00.000-05:002009-01-31T13:49:00.000-05:00Expect to hear this myth and many, many more when ...Expect to hear this myth and many, many more when you work at Gettysburg this summer! I cannot tell you how many times I hear visitors saying that McClellan had 30,000 men in reserve at Antietam, "who never fired a shot," and other such persistent myths. At most, Mac had, maybe, 5,000 infantry and 5,000 cavalry in reserve, not "two entire corps." I would imagine, though, what you are going to hear the most will be. . ."if only Jackson was alive, the battle would have turned out much different."
Have fun!
John D.
